On that Day

"On that Day, the Earth will recount everything (that happened on her)" (Quran 99:4)

Isn't that scary? That the trees should testify to our crimes, that the soil should demand reason for why it was covered in blood and screams and ashes? What will we tell them, what justification will we give then?

And the mountains, the cruelty that hid in their beauty, their majesty? How painful would their perishing be, in rage of what transpired in their valleys?

How will you and I say a word then, a harf even? What will we present as a reason for our callousness, for our forgetting, abetting and destroying?
For the hate, our useless empathy, our pursuit of happiness that didn’t even last seconds?

How will we prove we had a soul and a mind? How will we justify having them and still worshipping just flesh, flesh and flesh and its pleasures?

How much time before we are unveiled? How much before the soul shattering regret begins?
